Good Taste is the Worst Vice

Oktoberfest at Pierrot Gourmet, Peninsula Chicago

October 22, 2016

You might not expect to find Oktoberfest celebrated in a French cafe inside a Hong Kong-based hotel, but Pierrot Gourmet puts on a very good one, complete with an oompah band.  We go every fall – D loves the schnitzel.  I like schnitzel too, but I especially like the music!

Start out with a stein of beer and a plate of radishes and “kilometer” sausages, before moving on to the main event.  Yep, wiener schnitzel.

It comes with spicy German mustard and lingonberry sauce, plus potato salad.  The secret, D has discovered, is to ask for braised red cabbage instead of potatoes, and a side of buttery spaetzel.

For dessert, there’s apple strudel or Black Forest cake.

Fortunately oompah music works up an appetite!
